If the name of my blog doesn’t already hint at it, um, I like chocolate. Like, a lot. I have my go-tos like Lindt sea salt or their 70% bar but I always love trying bars from smaller, less mainstream companies (shall we call them “hipster” chocolate bars?).
During a pitstop at Safeway to get some snacks on the way home from Seattle, I came across this bar by Moonstruck Chocolates out of Oregon. Needless to say I was pretty excited about finding it for $3 at Safeway.
So how was the 68% dark chocolate sea salt almond bar? Overall, I found little fault in it, especially considering the price point. The almonds were slivered which I like (I hate chunks of whole nuts in chocolate bars, sorry Rittersport). The salt was there but it wasn’t abrasive. I probably could have tolerated a pinch more of it. As for the chocolate itself, it had a lot of fruity notes, not unlike cherries. This sweetness was a nice contrast to the salt and nuttiness of the almonds. See tasting chocolate, it’s just like tasting fine wine!
And the great thing about dark chocolate is that you don’t have to eat a ton of it to be satisfied (although I still do but that’s not what I’m trying to get at here, ok?). Suck on it, let it melt in your mouth and all of the flavours will start to come through, one at a time, like a little chocolate symphony. You get your fix and there’s nothing to feel bad about. Look at you, getting those antioxidants, lowering your blood pressure and eating sweets, all at the same time.
